Come slowly, summer, not with undue speed,
That we may hold each cherished sign of spring
In outstretched hands and lovingly take
heed Of bird and bee forever on the wing;

Of meadowlarks who joyously now spillTheir
cadenced music from each throbbing throat;
While sugar maples, on a distant hill,Half
blurred and dim, in roseate ether float.

Come slowly, summer, fill each heart with peace.
The ice-locked stream leaps forth in wild delight;
Breaking its bounds,it swirls in swift release
From winter's tomb, rejoicing in its might.

Come slowly, summer, and let each heart declare,
"God's in His Heaven. All His works are fair."
